Description
Castor oil (Oleum Ricini) is a herbal medicinal product used for constipation. Castor oil has a laxative effect.
Composition
The active substance is: castor oil ( Oleum Ricini ).
1 g of liquid contains 1 g of castor oil.
Dosage

Castor oil is taken orally.
The laxative effect usually occurs after about 2-3 hours.

Action
Castor oil has a laxative effect. Castor oil breaks down in the intestine into glycerin and ricinoleic acid (which undergoes saponification). The laxative effect is due to the acid and soaps – they irritate the intestines, increasing peristalsis (peristalsis). Additionally, they increase the amount of water in the intestinal lumen, softening stools, among other things.
Indications
Constipation.
Contraindications
Do not use Castor oil: in case of hypersensitivity (allergy) to castor oil; if you have inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, intestinal obstruction, as well as in combination with inflammation of the abdominal organs (including appendicitis), in case of abdominal pain of unknown origin.
Side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Castor oil may cause irritation of the small intestine, congestion of the large intestine, and pelvic organs. In particularly sensitive individuals, castor oil may cause a rash. Some people may experience other side effects when using castor oil.
Warnings and precautions
Caution should be exercised in elderly patients.
Do not use the product for a long time.
If constipation persists, consult a doctor.
Keep the medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Store the medicine at a temperature below 25°C.
Use of other medications
Please tell your doctor or pharmacist about all the medicines you are taking, have recently taken or might take, including medicines obtained without a prescription.
Castor oil may reduce the absorption of oral medications. It is recommended to maintain a time interval of several hours between taking castor oil and other medications.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
It is not recommended to use the drug during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Use of the drug in children and adolescents
Castor oil is not intended for children under 12 years of age.
