Description

Skinoren is a cream used to treat acne and skin discoloration. It contains azelaic acid, which has antibacterial properties, reduces the number of comedones, and inhibits hyperkeratosis.

Composition

The active substance is azelaic acid ( Acidum azelaicum ) .

1 g of cream contains 200 mg of azelaic acid.

Excipients: benzoic acid, macrogolglycerides stearates, a mixture of mono-, di- and triglycerides of higher fatty acids, cetearyl octanoate, propylene glycol, glycerol 85%, purified water.

Dosage

Always use this medicine exactly as described in the package leaflet or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

The usual dosage for Skinoren cream is to apply a thin layer to the affected skin twice daily (morning and evening). A 2.5 cm strip of cream (approximately 0.5 g) is sufficient for the entire face. Wash your hands after applying the cream. If skin irritation occurs, reduce the amount of cream used or limit it to once daily. If necessary, discontinue use for a few days.

The duration of Skinoren treatment depends on the severity of the patient's condition. Improvement in acne is usually achieved after 4 weeks of regular use. Do not use the medication for longer than 12 months. For the treatment of hyperpigmentation, it is recommended to use the medication for at least 3 months and use creams with UVA and UVB filters (sun exposure can exacerbate skin discoloration).

Action

Skinoren contains azelaic acid, which has antibacterial properties (inhibits the growth of Propionibacterium acnes ), inhibits hyperkeratosis, reduces the amount of free fatty acids on the skin's surface, and reduces the number of comedones. Azelaic acid also inhibits the growth and excessive activity of abnormal epidermal pigment cells (melanocytes).

Indications

Skinoren cream is indicated for the treatment of acne vulgaris and skin discoloration.

Contraindications

Do not use the medicine in case of hypersensitivity to the active substance or any of the ingredients.

Side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Very common side effects (affecting 1 in 10 people or more): burning sensation, redness at the application site, itching.

Common side effects (affects 1 to 10 people in 100): application site irritation, pain, dry skin, skin peeling, skin discolouration.

Uncommon side effects (affects 1 to 10 users in 1000): acne, seborrheic dermatitis, paraesthesia, dermatitis, discomfort, swelling at the application site.

Rare side effects (affects 1 to 10 people in 10,000): drug hypersensitivity.

Warnings and precautions

When using the medication, avoid contact with eyes, mouth, and mucous membranes. Wash your hands after each use.

This medicine contains propylene glycol, which may cause skin irritation. This medicine contains benzoic acid, which may irritate the skin, eyes, and mucous membranes.

Keep the medicine out of the sight and reach of children and at a temperature below 30°C.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

Do not use Skinoren during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless your doctor has told you to.

Use of the drug in children and adolescents

Not to be used in children under 12 years of age.
