Description

Lecicarbon is a suppository medication containing two active ingredients: sodium bicarbonate and sodium dihydrogen phosphate. Lecicarbon is indicated for various forms of constipation, such as those caused by consuming foods lacking sufficient fiber, lack of physical activity, or conditions that require easy bowel movements. Lecicarbon is also used to empty the bowels before surgery or diagnostic procedures involving the rectum.

Composition

The active substances are sodium bicarbonate and sodium dihydrogen phosphate.

Each Lecicarbon suppository contains: sodium bicarbonate 0.500 g, sodium dihydrogen phosphate 0.680 g.

Excipients: (3-sn-phosphatidyl)choline (= soy lecithin, phosphatides); solid fat; colloidal anhydrous silica.

Dosage

Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

The dosage is determined by the doctor individually for each patient.

The medicine should be administered rectally.

The usual dose is one suppository. If necessary, the medication can be repeated after 30–60 minutes. There is no risk of exceeding this dose, but there is no point in administering more than two suppositories.

Action

Lecicarbon works by physically inducing reflex bowel emptying caused by the release of carbon dioxide when the suppository comes into contact with moisture.

Indications

Lecicarbon suppositories are used for the short-term treatment of constipation of various causes (e.g., due to a low-fiber diet, lack of physical activity, or conditions requiring easy bowel movements). They are also used to empty the colon before diagnostic or therapeutic procedures involving the rectum.

Contraindications

Lecicarbon should not be used in cases of intestinal obstruction, in all diseases of the anal and rectal area where there is a risk of excessive carbon dioxide absorption, as well as in cases of hypersensitivity to soy, peanuts, or any of the excipients of Lecicarbon. In cases of toxic megacolon (pathological dilatation of the end of the large intestine due to various causes), the product should only be used with the express consent of the treating physician. This medicinal product contains (3-sn-phosphatidyl)choline (= soybean oil, lecithin). Do not use in cases of known hypersensitivity to peanuts or soy.

Side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

The insertion of a suppository may occasionally, in rare cases, cause a slight burning sensation that quickly subsides.

Warnings and precautions

In the presence of toxic megacolon (pathological dilatation of the end of the large intestine due to various causes), the drug should be used only after obtaining the express consent of the attending physician.

Keep the medicine out of the sight and reach of children.

Store and transport refrigerated (2˚C – 8˚C).

Use of other medications

Please tell your doctor or pharmacist about all the medicines you are taking, have recently taken or might take, including medicines obtained without a prescription.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

The decision to use the drug during pregnancy is made by the doctor.

Lecicarbon can be used during breastfeeding.

Use of the drug in children and adolescents

Do not use the medicine in children and adolescents under 18 years of age.

Driving and operating machinery

Please note that due to abdominal cramps associated with constipation, dizziness and/or fainting may occur. If you experience abdominal cramps, you should avoid potentially hazardous activities such as driving or operating machinery.
