Nicorette Freshmint is used to help you quit smoking when you want to or to reduce your smoking before quitting completely. It is part of a class of treatments called Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT).

Nicorette Freshmint relieves nicotine withdrawal symptoms, including nicotine cravings, which are common symptoms you experience when you quit smoking. When you suddenly stop giving your body the nicotine found in tobacco, you will experience various types of unpleasant sensations, called withdrawal symptoms.

By using Nicorette Freshmint, you can prevent or reduce these unpleasant sensations and the urge to smoke. This is because the medicine still provides your body with a small amount of nicotine, for a short period of time. Nicorette Berrymint does not contain tar, carbon monoxide or other toxins from cigarette smoke.

To improve your chances of helping yourself quit smoking, you should also seek advice and support, where possible.

Composition:

The active substance is nicotine.

One sprayed dose delivers 1 mg nicotine

The other ingredients are: propylene glycol (E1520), anhydrous ethanol, trometamol, poloxamer 407, glycerin (E422), sodium hydrogen carbonate, levomenthol, mint flavor, Cooler flavor, sucralose, acesulfame potassium, butylated hydroxytoluene (E321), hydrochloric acid 10% (for pH adjustment) and purified water.

Method of administration:

Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

Press the black button until you can push it in slightly

While pressing the button, slide up and continue until the top of the sprayer locks into place.

Before first use, prime the pump by pressing the top firmly until a fine spray appears. If you do not use the spray for several days, you may need to repeat this step.

Press the top of the sprayer firmly to spray into your mouth, avoiding your lips. For best results, wait a few seconds before swallowing. Do not inhale the spray – you should not spray into your throat.

To close the sprayer, slide the button down until it can be easily pushed in. Then, while pushing, slide down to lock.

Use 1 or 2 sprays at the time you would normally smoke a cigarette or when the urge to smoke arises. If a single spray does not relieve the nicotine craving within a few minutes, a second spray should be used. If 2 sprays are needed, subsequent doses can be given as 2 consecutive sprays. Most smokers require about 1-2 sprays at intervals of 30 minutes to 1 hour.

For example, if you smoke an average of around 15 cigarettes a day, you should use 1 or 2 sprays at least 15 times throughout the day. Reduce the number of sprays per day after 6 weeks.

The maximum dose is 2 sprays at a time, 4 sprays per hour, and 64 sprays per day.

Instructions :

Press the top of the canister to release a spray into your mouth.

To avoid the spray getting into your throat, do not inhale while spraying.

For best results, do not swallow for a few seconds after spraying.

Contraindications:

Do not use Nicorette Freshmint if:

• you have recently (within 3 months) had a heart attack or stroke
• you have chest pain (unstable angina) or angina at rest
• you have a heart condition that affects your heart rate or rhythm
• you have high blood pressure that is not controlled with medication
• you have ever had allergic reactions that caused swelling of the lips, face and throat (angioedema) or itchy skin rash (urticaria). Using TSN can sometimes trigger this type of reaction
• you have severe or moderate liver disease
• you have severe kidney disease
• you have diabetes
• you have an overactive thyroid gland
• you have a tumor of the adrenal gland (pheochromocytoma)
• you have a stomach ulcer
• you have esophagitis.

Precautions:

Nicorette Freshmint should not be used by non-smokers.

Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription. This is especially important if you are taking medicines containing: theophylline to treat asthma tacrine for Alzheimer's disease clozapine for schizophrenia, ropinirole to treat Parkinson's disease

Do not consume food or drink while administering the oropharyngeal spray.

Always take Nicorette Freshmint exactly as described in the leaflet. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

People under 18 should not use Nicorette Berrymint unless prescribed by a doctor.

Pregnancy, breastfeeding and fertility

It is very important to quit smoking during pregnancy, as smoking can lead to poor growth of your baby. It can also lead to premature birth or stillbirth.

It is best if you can quit smoking without the use of nicotine-containing medicines. If you are unable to do this, Nicorette Freshmint should only be used after consultation with the healthcare professional supervising your pregnancy, your GP or a doctor from a centre specialising in helping people who want to quit smoking.

Nicorette Freshmint should be avoided during breastfeeding because nicotine passes into breast milk and may harm your baby.

If your doctor has recommended that you use Nicorette Freshmint, the spray should only be used after breastfeeding.

Driving and using machines

No effects on the ability to drive or use machines have been observed.
