Prospan syrup, 200 ml, Engelhard Arznemittel

Indications:
Prospan syrup is a herbal medicine that contains dried ivy leaf extract (Hederae folium) as the active substance.
Symptomatic treatment of chronic bronchial inflammatory diseases, acute inflammations of the respiratory tract accompanied by cough.
Prospan syrup is used to treat cough in adults, adolescents and children.

Composition/100g syrup:
- The active substance is the dry extract of ivy leaves (Hederae folium) 100 ml of syrup contains 0.7 g of dry extract of ivy leaves (Hederae folium) (5 -7.5):1 Extraction agent: ethyl alcohol (ethanol) 30% (m/m)
- The other ingredients are: potassium sorbate (Ph.Eur.) (preservative), anhydrous citric acid (Ph. Eur.), sorbitol solution 70% (crystallizable) (E420) (Ph.Eur.), xanthan gum, cherry flavor, purified water.

Method of administration:
- Adults and children over 10 years of age - the recommended dose is 5 ml of syrup 3 times a day (corresponding to 105 mg of dry extract of Hederae folium - ivy leaf). If necessary, the dose for adults can be increased to 7.5 ml of syrup 3 times a day (corresponding to 157.5 mg of dry extract of Hederae folium - ivy leaf).
- Children between 6 and 9 years old - the recommended dose is 5 ml of syrup 3 times a day (corresponding to 105 mg of dry extract of Hederae folium - ivy leaf).
- Children between 1 and 5 years old - the recommended dose is 2.5 ml of syrup 3 times a day (corresponding to 52.5 mg of dry extract of Hederae folium - ivy leaf).
Prospan syrup is administered in the morning, at noon and in the evening. The syrup is administered with the measuring cup attached to the bottle. It is recommended to shake the bottle vigorously before use.

The duration of treatment depends on the type and severity of the disease. Treatment should be carried out for at least one week, even in the case of mild inflammation of the respiratory tract.
It is recommended that treatment be continued for 2-3 days after the symptoms have disappeared. It is recommended not to exceed the recommended daily dose.

Contraindications:
Do not use Prospan syrup:
- if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to the active substance (dried ivy leaf extract (Hederae folium)) or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

Precautions:
Before using Prospan syrup, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
If symptoms do not improve or if you experience difficulty breathing, fever, or pus or blood-tinged sputum, you should seek urgent medical attention.
Children:
Before using Prospan syrup for children under 1 year of age, consult your doctor or pharmacist. Unlike older children, this age group should be carefully monitored when administering Prospan syrup, as diarrhea and vomiting may occur.
In this case, you should contact your doctor urgently.

Pregnancy, lactation and fertility:
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
Prospan syrup is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding, as there is insufficient information available about the safety of administration in pregnant and breastfeeding women.

Driving and using machines:
This medicine has no effect on the ability to drive or use machines.
