Amygdalin Alter Medica is a dietary supplement in the form of capsules containing an extract obtained from apricot seeds ( Prunus armeniaca L.) standardized to contain 1% amygdalin. Amygdalin, also called vitamin B 17, is naturally present in almonds, apricot seeds and other fruits and seeds. The preparation was developed to supplement the diet of adults with active ingredients of plant origin.
Common apricot ( Prunus armeniaca L. ) is a perennial plant belonging to the rose family. Its edible fruits and seeds, which are a natural source of amygdalin, can be consumed, especially in powdered form. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has estimated that the safe amount of apricot seeds for adults is three small pieces (370 mg). Each capsule of Alter Medica Amygdalina contains 22.8 mg of apricot kernel extract.
