Damiana has been traditionally used since ancient times. The Mayans called Damiana mis kok, meaning asthma sweeper, and used it as infusions, as well as smoked and powdered it. The Mexicans recommended Damiana infusions to women whose menstruation was intense, painful or irregular. They also used it for headaches, stomachaches, mental weakness and nervousness, and after a scorpion sting.
