The medicine is used against excessive acidity of gastric juice. It contains medicines that, through their strong neutralizing effect on hydrochloric acid, which is responsible for the acidity of the stomach contents, reduce this acidity.

The medicine is intended for heartburn and when the acidic contents of the stomach flow back into the esophagus (gastroesophageal reflux).

Maalox is a medicine for excessive acidity of the stomach (antacid). The active substances contained in the medicine have a strong neutralizing effect on hydrochloric acid, which is responsible for the acidity of the stomach contents, thereby reducing its acidity.

The medicine is used to treat problems related to excess stomach acid, such as heartburn (pyrosis) and reflux (regurgitation) of acidic contents from the stomach into the mouth. On the recommendation of a doctor, the drug is used to treat inflammation of the gastric mucosa, inflammation of the esophageal mucosa and may be part of the treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers.

It can be used by adults and adolescents from the age of 15.

Composition:

• The active ingredients are aluminum hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide
• Each chewable tablet contains 400 mg of aluminum hydroxide (algeldrate) and 400 mg of magnesium hydroxide
• Other ingredients are: mannitol, sorbitol, sodium saccharin, sucrose with corn starch, peppermint essence, magnesium stearate, sucrose.

How to use: 

• Unless otherwise prescribed by a doctor, adults and adolescents over 15 years of age usually take 1-2 tablets regularly for symptoms
• The tablets are sucked or chewed
• The maximum number of doses per day is 6 doses, the maximum dose of 12 tablets should not be exceeded.

Interactions:

• The effects of Maalox and other concomitant medications may interact
• The drug can reduce the absorption of the vast majority of concomitantly used drugs (e.g. antibiotics, preparations or drugs containing iron, phosphorus, fluorine, indomethacin, chloroquine, digoxin, fexofenadine, glucocorticosteroids, fluoroquinolones, kayexalate, ketoconazole, methoconazole, atenolol, methoconazole, diflunisal, cyclines, isoniazid, ethambutol, salicylates). Therefore, it is advisable to maintain a time interval of at least 2 hours between taking Maalox and other medications.

Contraindications:

• The drug should not be used by people with hypersensitivity to any component of the drug
• Consult your doctor about the advisability of using the drug during pregnancy and breastfeeding
• People suffering from kidney disease, intestinal emptying disorders (diarrhea, constipation, narrowing of the colon) or disorders of blood phosphorus and magnesium levels can take the drug only on the express recommendation of a doctor
• The drug should not be given to children under 15 years of age without direct medical advice.

Warnings:

• Consult your doctor about the advisability of taking Maalox with other medications. In case of overdose or accidental use of the medicine by a child, consult a doctor
• Tell your doctor if you have weight loss, difficulty swallowing, persistent digestive problems that have appeared for the first time or have recently changed, or kidney failure
• If symptoms persist for more than 10 days or worsen, consult a doctor
• In case of diabetes, it is also necessary to take into account the presence of sucrose 150 mg in one tablet
• Store at temperatures below 25°C
• Do not use after the expiry date stated on the packaging
