Rinonef-T

Rinonef-T is available as nasal drops, solution, packaged in a 10 ml polyethylene dropper bottle. This pharmaceutical form allows for the precise and localised administration of the active ingredients directly onto the nasal mucosa, ensuring a rapid onset of therapeutic action and limiting systemic absorption. 

The bottle is fitted with a dropper system that facilitates correct dosing in both adults and adolescents over 12 years of age.

10 ml of Rinonef-T nasal drops contain ephedrine hydrochloride – 50 mg and neomycin sulphate – 50 mg.

Rinonef-T is indicated for:

• the treatment of acute and chronic rhinitis caused by Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria sensitive to neomycin;
• allergic rhinitis, particularly in cases of bacterial superinfection;
• swelling of the nasal mucosa following endonasal surgery.

Thanks to the combination of a sympathomimetic agent and a local antibiotic, the medicine helps both to reduce congestion and to control local infection.

In children over 12 years of age, the usual dose is one drop of Rinonef-T instilled into each nostril, 2–4 times a day, for a maximum of 5 days.
For adults, the usual dose is 1–2 drops instilled into each nostril, 2–5 times a day, for 5–7 days.

It is recommended not to exceed the maximum duration of treatment, due to the risk of tachyphylaxis and rebound congestion.

Administration of the antibiotic Rinonef T is contraindicated in the following situations:

• hypersensitivity to any of the components;
• risk of angle-closure glaucoma;
• risk of urinary retention in patients with urethral or prostatic disorders;
• children under the age of 12.

Prolonged use of Rinonef-T may lead to tachyphylaxis, a condition characterised by a progressive reduction in the therapeutic response. Administration for periods exceeding 7 days may cause irritation of the nasal mucosa and the onset of persistent congestion, known as drug-induced rhinitis.

Caution is advised in patients with hypertension, cardiovascular disease or hyperthyroidism, given the alpha-sympathomimetic action of ephedrine.

Rinonef-T is generally well tolerated when the recommended doses and duration of treatment are observed. However, prolonged use may cause local irritation of the nasal mucosa. 

In the event of prolonged use or high doses, headache, insomnia and palpitations may occur, symptoms associated with the systemic absorption of ephedrine.

Based on available data, no significant drug interactions are known for the antibiotic Rinonef-T. 

However, caution is recommended when used in combination with other sympathomimetic drugs, in order to avoid potentiation of cardiovascular effects. Food does not affect the efficacy or safety of the product.

No documented cases of overdose with Rinonef-T have been reported. However, prolonged use or administration of high doses may cause headache, insomnia and palpitations, in which case treatment should be discontinued and medical assessment sought.

Rinonef-T must be stored at temperatures between 15 and 25 °C, in the original packaging, protected from light and moisture. The medicine must not be used after the expiry date stated on the packaging and must be kept out of the reach of children.
