Herbion Ivy expectorant syrup, 7 mg/ml, 150 ml, KRKA

Indications:
Herbion ivy syrup contains dried ivy leaf extract.
Herbion ivy syrup is a herbal medicine, used as an expectorant in productive coughs.

Composition/100g syrup:
- The active substance is dry ivy leaf extract. 1 ml of syrup contains 7 mg dry ivy leaf extract (Hedera helix L., folium) (5–7.5:1). Extraction solvent: ethyl alcohol 30% (m/m).
- The other ingredients are: Non-crystallizable liquid sorbitol (E 420), glycerol, sodium benzoate (E 211), citric acid monohydrate (E330), lemon balsamic flavor (also contains ethyl alcohol), purified water.

Method of administration:
Adults:
The recommended dose for adults, the elderly and adolescents aged 12 years and over is 5 to 7.5 ml of syrup, twice a day.
Use in children and adolescents:
The recommended dose for children aged 6 to 11 years is 5 ml of syrup twice a day.
The recommended dose for children aged 2 to 5 years is 2.5 ml of syrup twice a day.
Use in children under 2 years of age is contraindicated.
Administer the syrup in the morning and after lunch, with or without food.

Contraindications:
Do not take Herbion ivy syrup
- if you are allergic to ivy leaf extract, other plants in the Araliaceae (ivy) family or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
Do not give this medicine to children under 2 years of age due to the risk of worsening respiratory symptoms.

Precautions:
Before taking Herbion ivy syrup, talk to your doctor or pharmacist:
- if you experience difficulty breathing, fever or purulent sputum, you should contact your doctor or pharmacist.
- if you are using this medicine and the symptoms of the disease persist for more than a week, contact your doctor.
- it is not recommended to use this medicine together with other cough suppressants (antitussives such as codeine or dextromethorphan) without medical indication.
- if you have stomach problems (gastritis, stomach ulcer), you should use this medicine with caution.
Children and adolescents:
Before starting treatment, if children aged 2-4 years have persistent or recurrent cough, medical consultation is necessary.

Pregnancy, lactation and fertility:
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
Herbion ivy syrup is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding because there is insufficient data on the use of ivy leaf extract in pregnant and breastfeeding women.

Driving and using machines:
No studies on the effects on the ability to drive and use machines have been performed.
