Description

The drug accelerates the absorption of extensive hematomas (ecchymoses) and reduces the likelihood of their occurrence in the postoperative period. It limits the leakage of lymph into the surrounding tissue, improves capillary function, improves lymphatic circulation and ensures the emptying of varicose veins (morbidly enlarged) in patients with venous insufficiency of the lower limbs.

The drug is used in adults for treatment

Localized swelling and inflammation, especially post-traumatic and postoperative
Extensive post-traumatic bruises and prevention of postoperative hematomas (bruises)
Disease of the veins of the lower limbs in patients with circulatory failure (the drug improves the emptying of varicose veins (varicose veins) by limiting the outflow of lymph and improving lymphatic capillary circulation)
Painful symptoms of the spine, especially in patients with symptoms of pressure on the spinal nerve roots
Inflammation of tendon sheaths

Dosage

Adults: take 2 tablets 3 times a day. For maintenance treatment, 1 tablet is usually taken 3 times a day.

Tablets are taken at regular intervals, whole, after a meal and swallowed with a sufficient amount of liquid.

Notice:

In the first trimester of pregnancy, the drug is contraindicated. In the second and third trimesters of pregnancy and during breastfeeding, the drug should not be used due to the lack of data on the use of the drug during pregnancy and during breastfeeding.
The medicine is not intended for children and adolescents under 18 years of age
The medicine does not replace other preventive measures or treatment, such as leg bandages, using cold water or wearing support stockings (as recommended by the doctor)

Adverse effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

If bleeding occurs and at the first signs of a hypersensitivity reaction (for example, skin rash), it is necessary to inform the doctor, who will decide on the next procedure.

Side effects may occur less often - dizziness, headache, nausea and vomiting, abdominal discomfort, diarrhea. Symptoms are usually transient and resolve without treatment. There is also the risk of thrombosis (clogging of a blood vessel with a blood clot). Adverse effects on the kidneys have been described after high doses.

Contraindications

Do not take AESCIN:

If you are allergic to alpha-escin or any of the other ingredients of Aescin
If you have chronic kidney disease (kidney failure)
In the first 3 months of pregnancy
For swellings of other origin than post-traumatic
If you develop blood clots (thromboembolic disease)

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Aescin.

In patients with renal disease, consideration should be given to whether the benefits of treatment outweigh the risk, and monitoring of renal function is recommended.

If you have inflammation of the skin, superficial inflammation of the veins or hardening of the subcutaneous tissue, severe pain, ulcers, sudden swelling of one or both legs, heart disease or kidney problems, contact your doctor immediately as these may be signs of a serious illness.

The use of Aescin is not a substitute for other precautions or treatment, such as bandaging the legs, using cold water, or wearing support stockings.

Children and teenagers

The medicine is not intended for children and adolescents under 18 years of age.

Other medicines and AESCIN

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.

Escin increases the effects of anticoagulants (medicines that reduce blood clotting) and increases the nephrotoxicity (kidney toxicity) of aminoglycosides (eg gentamicin and other antibiotics, eg cefaclor).
