Aspacardin, 30 tablets, Terapia

It acts on the heart and blood vessels and is used as adjunctive therapy in adults in coronary heart disease (disease of the blood vessels of the heart), in certain heart rhythm disorders and to prevent heart rhythm disorders that may occur after treatment with some medicines called glycosides cardiac tonic.

Composition:

• The active substances are: racemic potassium hydrogen aspartate hemihydrate and racemic magnesium aspartate tetrahydrate
• One tablet contains potassium hydrogen aspartate hemihydrate, racemic 180 mg (equivalent to 39 mg potassium) and magnesium aspartate tetrahydrate, racemic 180 mg (equivalent to 12 mg magnesium)
• The other components are: microcrystalline cellulose, colloidal anhydrous silicon dioxide, hydrogenated vegetable oil, sodium stearyl fumarate, carmellose sodium.

How to use:

• Always use Aspacardin exactly as your doctor has told you
• You should talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure
• This medicine is only for adults
• The recommended dose is 1 - 2 Aspacardin tablets administered orally, 2 - 3 times a day
• Take the tablet with enough liquid.

Contraindications:

Do not use Aspacardin

• if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to the active substances or to any of the other components of Aspacardin
• if you have severe impairment of kidney function (kidney failure).

Precautions:

Take special care when using Aspacardin

• if you have kidney failure, your doctor will monitor your blood levels of potassium and magnesium
• in the case of the association of calcium deficiency, it is recommended, as a first measure, to correct the magnesium deficiency, before starting the use of calcium
• in case of urinary infections, they must be cured before starting magnesium treatment.

Interactions:

Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription. in particular, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are using:

• medicines containing phosphates or salts of calcium, iron, fluorides, quinidine, because there may be an increase in the plasma concentration of quinidine and the risk of toxic effects, by decreasing its renal excretion, due to the alkalinisation of urine medicines used in the treatment of some infections (tetracycline , aminoglycosides)
• cispaltine (used as antineoplastic)
• ciclosporin A (medicine that lowers immunity).

Special warnings:

• This medicine contains 39 mg potassium/tablet
• This should be considered in patients with impaired renal function or in patients on a potassium-restricted diet.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding:

• Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine
• Do not use Aspacardin during pregnancy
• If you are breast-feeding, do not take Aspacardin
• Due to the effect of magnesium to relax the uterine muscles, Aspacardin is contraindicated during childbirth.

Adverse reactions:

• Like all medicines, Aspacardin can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them
• May occur: nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain
• If any of the side effects become serious, or if you notice any side effects not mentioned in this leaflet, please tell your doctor or pharmacist.

Overdose:

• If you take more Aspacardin than you should, you may experience some symptoms due to an increase in the plasma concentration of magnesium or potassium, such as: low blood pressure, nausea, vomiting, transient flushing of the face and neck, thirst, drowsiness, confusion, muscle weakness, decreased reflexes, ECG changes, onset of respiratory depression, heart rhythm disturbances, coma, cardiac arrest and respiratory paralysis, anuria (absence of urination)
• In this case, contact your doctor immediately or go to the nearest hospital
• Take the remaining tablets or the empty pack to let your doctor know what you have taken.
