The product is indicated for the treatment of nematodoses and cestodes in dogs and cats caused by adult and juvenile forms of Echinococcus spp., Taenia spp., Dipylidium caninum, Diphylobotrium erinacei, Mesocestoides corti, Toxocara caniș, Toxascaris leonina, Ancylostoma caninum, Ancylostoma tubaeforme, Uncinaria stenocephala.

Indications:

The product is indicated for the treatment of nematodoses and cestodes in dogs and cats caused by adult and juvenile forms of Echinococcus spp., Taenia spp., Dipylidium caninum, Diphylobotrium erinacei, Mesocestoides corti, Toxocara caniș, Toxascaris leonina, Ancylostoma caninum, Ancylostoma tubaeforme, Uncinaria stenocephala.

Composition:

A 600 mg tablet contains

• Praziquantel 50.00 mg
• Pyrantel pamoate 150.00 mg.

How to use:

The product is administered orally as follows

• Dogs: 1 tablet/10 kg body weight
• Young cats: ¼ tablet/animal
• Adult cats: ½ tablet/animal
• The treatment is administered 3 - 4 times a year
• To ensure the correct dose, body weight will be established as accurately as possible.

Contraindications:

• Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to the active substances or to any of the excipients
• The product is not administered to puppies under 4 weeks of age and cats under 6 weeks of age.

Adverse reactions:

• Very rarely, vomiting, anorexia, diarrhea can be observed when administering praziquantel, but without serious consequences
• Dogs tolerate pyrantel pamoate very well, even in the case of multiple doses and therefore no adverse reactions occur.

Special warnings: 

The following practices should be avoided, as they increase the risk of developing resistance and ultimately lead to ineffective treatment:

• Frequent and repeated use of antiparasitics from the same class, over a long period of time, - underdosing which may result from underestimating the body weight of the animals
• People with known hypersensitivity to one of the components of the product should avoid contact with it. In case of accidental ingestion of the product or allergies caused by its contact with the skin, seek medical advice immediately and show the product package leaflet or the label
• There are no contraindications for the use of the product during pregnancy and/or lactation
• Do not administer concomitantly with products containing piperazine, as the anthelmintic effects of pyrantel and piperazine may be antagonistic. Concomitant administration with other cholinergics may cause toxicity
• No toxic reactions have been reported in case of overdose.

• Praziquantel acts by spastic paralysis of the neuromuscular system of cestodes and by profound structural changes in the parasite's skin. Both processes develop in parallel and are triggered very rapidly after administration of praziquantel. Praziquantel rapidly penetrates the parasite without being metabolized
• It has been shown that praziquantel suppresses the activity of fumarate reductase in the myofibril membrane and neuromuscular synapses, this suppression having as its effect the destruction of carbohydrate metabolism and glucose transfer through the tegument, which results in paralysis and death of parasites
• Pyrantel pamoate Its action is similar to the effect of levamisole, morantel and dimethylcarbamazepine. This explains the spasmogenic activity which is 100 times stronger than the action of acetylcholine in the parasite's muscles. It inhibits the activity of cholinesterase. Excessive accumulation of acetylcholinesterase in neuromuscular synapses leads to a stable depolarization of the membranes and blocking the transmission of nerve impulses, which leads to paralysis and death of nematodes.

Praziquantel

• Praziquantel is absorbed very rapidly in a high percentage (over 80%) from the digestive tract of mammals (mouse, rat, rabbit, hamster, dog, sheep, cow, monkey and man). Its maximum concentration (Cmax) in the blood of mice after oral administration was established in 5-7 minutes, and the half-life is 4-6 minutes
• Absorption is mostly in the duodenum. Higher concentrations are found at plasma level after intramuscular or subcutaneous administration than after oral administration in mice, 180 min and 60 min respectively. The absorption of praziquantel from the digestive tract is faster than in the case of intramuscular and subcutaneous administration. After absorption, praziquantel penetrates into all organs, tissues and fluids of the body, which explains its activity against parasites with different localizations. It crosses the blood-brain barrier and the concentrations in the cerebrospinal fluid reach values ​​of 1/7 - 1/5 of those found in the blood.
• Praziquantel is metabolized very rapidly in the liver, mainly by hydroxylation
• It is eliminated in a very high percentage through urine and in a very small percentage through feces. Praziquantel is eliminated in very small quantities through bile and through milk.

Pyrantel pamoate

• Pyrantel pamoate is poorly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and 50-70% of the orally administered dose is excreted unchanged in the feces. The low solubility offers the advantage of prolonged activity against nematodes that parasitize the gastrointestinal tract.
