Bio-Magnesium is a complex of three magnesium salts, each tablet providing 200 mg of pure magnesium. The tablet contains a mixture of organic and inorganic magnesium in a matrix that causes the tablet to completely dissolve in a few minutes. Thus magnesium is transformed into an ionized form, easily absorbed even by people who have low gastric acidity. Bio-Magnesium does not need to be taken with food.
What is magnesium?
Magnesium is an essential, vital mineral for the body. It is the fourth most abundant mineral in the human body. Magnesium is present in all cells, 98% being inside the cell. An adult has approximately 24 g of magnesium stored in the body. About 25% of it is found in muscle and almost 60% in bone, along with other minerals such as calcium and phosphorus.
Magnesium has a number of important roles in the body, supporting over 300 enzymatic processes. Magnesium contributes to:
- the normal functioning of the muscular system
-normal energy metabolism
- maintaining the health of the bone system and the health of the teeth
- maintaining mental health
-electrolytic balance
- the normal functioning of the nervous system
- reduction of fatigue and exhaustion
-normal protein synthesis
- the process of cell division
Magnesium - in the spotlight
In recent years, science has become more and more interested in this mineral, due to the importance of magnesium in the functioning of the body. The need for magnesium supplementation occurs in people who consume coffee, but also in the case of elite athletes, because excessive coffee consumption and profuse sweating decrease magnesium reserves in the body.
Sources of magnesium
Magnesium is found in various foods, such as:
-greens
- almonds
- nuts
- seeds
- fruits
Magnesium deficiency
If the diet contains very little protein (less than 30 g/day), then the absorption of magnesium in the body is diminished. In the situation where there is a small amount of magnesium in the body, the body will try to normalize its concentration of magnesium in the blood by releasing the magnesium that is in the bone tissue (just as it does with calcium). Because of this mechanism, measuring magnesium levels in the blood is not an effective method for determining whether a person needs to supplement their daily requirement of this mineral.
Overdose
When the ingested amount of this mineral is greater than the body's need, the kidneys excrete the excess magnesium through the urine. This mechanism reduces the risk of overdose. When there is enough magnesium in the body, a supplement with this mineral can cause soft stools to appear, thus protecting the body from overdosing. Ingesting magnesium in very large doses (10 times the normal value or more) can lead to diarrhea, dizziness or other types of discomfort.
People with kidney problems should use magnesium supplements only on the advice of a doctor.
Magnesium tablet testing
You can test the magnesium product you are using to see how quickly the tablet dissolves.
We put two magnesium tablets in two glasses of water. In the glass on the left, I put the Bio-Magnesium tablet from Pharma Nord. After just a few minutes, the tablet is completely dissolved and ready to be absorbed by the body. In the glass on the right, I put a tablet from a competitor. Even after being kept in water for 24 hours, the tablet on the right shows no sign of dissolution.
