Algae are a rich source of micro and macro elements, vitamins and substances with antioxidant properties. The calcium found in Lithothamnium calcareum algae is characterized by high bioavailability. It is better absorbed than calcium from oyster shells and limestone. Calcium from red algae also has a greater effect on calcium metabolism and calcium marker levels compared to a non-algal calcium carbonate supplement.
Lithothamnium calcareum algae take minerals from seawater and store them as carbonate salts in their cell walls. Seaweed tallow consists of 95-99.5% minerals. The calcified fragments detach from the living organism and fall to the bottom of the ocean, where they are collected and dried.
