There are many ways to certify Manuka honey. The most common and reliable of them are MGO™ and UMF. The MGO™ evaluation system simply and directly reflects the content of methylglyoxal (MGO) per kilogram of honey. The higher the MGO content, the higher the level of honey. In turn, UMF is an abbreviation for Unique Manuka Factor . This is a certification method developed by UMFHA ( The Unique Mānuka Factor Honey Association ). It was used before the compound methylglyoxal and its properties were discovered.

The UMF level of 15+ corresponds to 514 methylglyoxal (MG) units and has been confirmed by appropriate tests.
