Activated carbon is an elementary form of carbon, characterized by very high porosity. Due to the existence of an extensive network of pores, such coal has a very large specific surface area. Such carbon activation is achieved by exposing the carbon to high temperatures with limited access to air. Due to such an extensive surface area, activated carbon has excellent adsorption (adsorbent) properties and is able to bind and neutralize many substances on the surface. Moreover, as an adsorbent, it is also used in cosmetics (skin cleansing masks), in hygiene products (whitening toothpastes) and in many other areas as a filtering agent (eg in aquariums).

Aliness activated carbon is obtained from coconut shells and is intended as an ingredient in food supplements. It comes from a leading European supplier and is manufactured in one of its manufacturing facilities located in Sri Lanka, Thailand and Indonesia.
