L-Carnitine is a substance produced in the liver and kidneys, and its role in the body is to facilitate the transport of fatty acids to the mitochondria. These intracellular formations have as their main function the production of energy, as a result of the burning of fatty acid chains. It is known that L-Carnitine is mostly assimilated from food (milk, meat) and only approximately 25% is endogenous.
An insufficient amount of L-Carnitine will lead to a deficient transport of fatty acids at the mitochondria level, which results in depriving the body of the energy needed to perform various activities.
Since the most intense burning process of fatty acids takes place in the skeletal muscles, the largest amount of L-Carnitine is stored in the muscle tissue. A similar amount is found in the cardiac muscle.
