What is Maskrym emulsion and what is it used for
Maskrym emulsion is a pharmaceutical preparation based on clindamycin, a newer generation antibiotic with a superior safety and tolerability profile, indicated in the treatment of acne vulgaris associated with inflammatory lesions and in superficial folliculitis caused by Staphylococcus aureus.
Maskrym is indicated for patients with acne who have very sensitive skin and are intolerant to pharmaceutical preparations that can have the effect of excessive drying of the skin or skin irritation. Maskrym is also indicated in combination with Mask Plus, with alternate administration every 12 hours, in case of persistent inflammatory lesions.
Maskrym is also recommended as an adjuvant treatment of oral isotretinoin in more severe cases of acne.
Due to the pharmaceutical form, Maskrym is also recommended in the treatment of inflammatory lesions caused by acne or folliculitis on larger areas (trunk, upper/lower limbs, etc.)

Mode of action
Maskrym inhibits the local multiplication of anaerobic bacteria and staphylococci, which can cause an aggravation of inflammatory lesions. Maskrym has an anti-inflammatory effect and reduces lesions caused by acne and folliculitis.
The hydrogel base is associated with Polyvinyl A. (PVA), a non-occlusive pharmaceutical biopolymer that increases the compliance and safety of Maskrym treatment. The studies carried out in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Milan demonstrated that, due to the association with PVA, clindamycin has an insignificant absorption at the level of the dermis and is not associated with long-term adverse reactions. At the same time, the studies did not highlight any contraindication for the use of the product.
