Bromelain - what is it?
Bromelain, also called bromelain, is a mixture of digestive enzymes found naturally in pineapples. Proteolytic enzymes are produced by plants to protect them from insect larvae. Bromelain was first extracted in a laboratory in the late 19th century. Since then, scientific research on its properties has been ongoing, and this ingredient is most commonly used in Asian countries.
