Description
Synvisc One ® Hylan GF 20 is a medical device in the form of a solution in a pre-filled syringe intended for intra-articular injections on an outpatient basis. The preparation is a sterile, pyrogenic, elastic-viscous liquid containing hylan polymers A and B in a buffered, physiological sodium chloride solution (pH 7.2 ± 0.3). Hylans are derivatives of hyaluronan (sodium salt of hyaluronic acid). Hylan A is a chemical with an average molecular weight of approximately 6,000,000 daltons. Hylan B, on the other hand, is a hydrating gel. The preparation uses hylans produced on the basis of a highly purified extract of bird origin.
The Synvisc One ® Hylan GF 20 medical device is indicated for the treatment of advanced degenerative joint changes. The injection solution allows the periodic replacement and replenishment of the synovial fluid, which is necessary for the joints to function properly and maintain their proper mobility. Therapy with hyaluronic acid derivatives injected directly into the joint brings the best results in patients who actively and regularly use the affected joint. Viscosupplementation with the Synvisc One ® Hylan GF 20 medical device can help reduce pain and discomfort and increase joint mobility. Importantly, the use of hylan GF 20 does not cause systemic effects, and its effect is only observed in the knee joint. Therapeutic values, according to clinical studies, can last up to 26 weeks.
