Description
Features
The first mentions of cinnamon come from ancient China in 4000 BC. The aromatic bark of an evergreen tropical tree called cinnamon tree (Cinnamomum zeylanicum) that grows in Sri Lanka is considered the best cinnamon in the world. The first harvest is harvested two to three years after planting. The bark of the tree peels off and, after drying, forms characteristic thin coils, the edges of which roll inwards.
Beneficial effects
Cinnamon promotes appetite, improves digestion, acts against flatulence, contributes to dilating blood vessels and lowering blood pressure. It is used as a spice either in its original form or ground. It has a spicy-sweet taste and a pleasant aroma, which is mainly due to the cinnamon compound it contains.
Use
Cinnamon as a spice is mainly used in the preparation of sweet dishes, in various types of pastries and confectionery or in fruit preservation . Its woody and sweet taste is excellent with rice milk, cakes, fruit dumplings or compote.
Cinnamon has a very pleasant characteristic smell and taste, with lemon undertones. It also goes very well with many types of dried fruit. However, it is also used in meat dishes, especially in Oriental and Latin American cuisine. It also plays an important role in fruit preservation.
