Gynoxin
Description Gynoxin
The information in the FAQ section was created by the Liki24.at team and is based on the official manufacturer's manual
Gynoxin is an antifungal medicine used in the treatment of vaginal and external genital infections caused by fungi, including Candida species. Its active ingredient, fenticonazole, is an imidazole derivative that acts effectively against fungi and, in some cases, bacteria.
Forms of release
Gynoxin comes as soft vaginal capsules or vaginal cream. The vaginal capsules come in a strength of 200 mg of fenticonazole for Gynoxin Optima or 600 mg per capsule for Gynoxin Uno.
This form of delivery allows the drug to be administered intravaginally, which facilitates local absorption directly into the affected area and ensures a concentrated treatment of the infection.
Indications for use
Gynoxin is indicated for the treatment of fungal or mixed infections of the vagina and external genitals, especially vaginal candidiasis. Vaginal yeast yeast infections are often accompanied by symptoms such as pruritus (itching), burning, inflammation and vaginal discharge of an infectious nature.
Gynoxin helps quickly relieve these symptoms with its localized antifungal action.
Fenticonazole acts directly on fungal cell membranes, inhibiting their synthesis and leading to the destruction of fungal cells.
Dosage regimen
The usual dose of Gynoxin is 1 vaginal capsule inserted deep into the vagina, preferably in the evening before bedtime. The 200 mg capsules are taken for 3 consecutive days, and if symptoms persist, the treatment may be repeated after a 3-day break.
The usual dose for 600 mg capsules is 1 vaginal capsule, and if symptoms persist after one application, another vaginal capsule can be used after 3 days.
To prevent re-infection, it is recommended that the sexual partner is also treated with a topical antifungal product, applied to the glans and foreskin.
Contraindications
The use of Gynoxin is contraindicated in the following cases:
- Hypersensitivity to fenticonazole or other components of the capsule, such as glycerol or titanium dioxide
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding: data on the use of fenticonazole during these periods are limited, so specialist advice is needed
- Use in patients under 16 years of age: not recommended for use in people under this age without medical advice
Features of use
Gynoxin soft vaginal capsules are for intravaginal use only and should not be swallowed.
Gynoxin also contains ingredients that can interact with the latex in condoms or diaphragms, so it is recommended to use an alternative method of contraception during treatment.
Side-effects
Gynoxin is generally well tolerated, but mild and transient side effects may occur, such as:
- Burning or redness in the vagina and vulva
- Local irritation or discomfort that usually disappears quickly after administration
Very rarely, more severe allergic reactions such as erythema or persistent itching may occur. In extreme cases, discontinue use and consult a doctor.
Interactions with other medicines and foods
There are no known major drug interactions with Gynoxin, due to reduced systemic absorption of fenticonazole.
However, concomitant use with other intravaginal treatments should be avoided to prevent interactions or local irritation.
The use of spermicides is also not recommended as any local vaginal treatment is likely to inactivate a local contraceptive spermicide.
Overdose
Because systemic absorption of fenticonazole is minimal, overdose is very unlikely with the correct use of Gynoxin.
However, excessive use of the capsules may increase the risk of local side effects such as burning or vaginal irritation.
In case of accidental ingestion of the capsule, the patient should go immediately to hospital for assessment and treatment.
Storage conditions
Gynoxin capsules should be stored at a temperature not exceeding 30°C and away from moisture and direct sunlight. It is essential that the product is stored in a safe place away from children to avoid accidental ingestion. The medicine should also not be used after the expiry date printed on the packaging.
