Otrivin

Otrivin is available as decongestant nasal sprays or nasal cleansing nasal sprays, which facilitate an even coverage of the nasal cavity and allow precise application. The products come in various strengths to suit the specific needs of users.

Otrivin products are recommended for:

• Nasal congestion: Otrivin Menthol, Otrivin Extra Dual Relief or Otrivin Sinusitis Relief are products that help to clear the stuffy nose in case of colds, flu or sinusitis by reducing inflammation and improving breathing. Otrivin Natural spray with eucalyptus also has a decongestant effect, thanks to its hypertonic saline solution.
• Cleaning the nasal passages: Otrivin Breathe Clean or Otrivin Aloe Vera products are isotonic saline solutions that remove dust particles, pollen and germs, preventing them from accumulating in the nasal cavity
• Moisturizes the nasal mucosa: The glycerin in the product has a moisturizing effect, preventing dry and irritated nasal passages, especially in dry or air-conditioned environments
• Daily prophylaxis: Daily nasal cleansing is indicated for people constantly exposed to pollutants, allergens and fine particles

The recommended dose varies depending on the severity of symptoms, the age of users and the type of product used.

For Otrivin Breathe Clean Nasal Nasal Cleanser, 1-2 sprays in each nostril are recommended as needed. The product is suitable for both adults and children.

For Otrivin products containing xylometazoline, the dosage and duration of use should be followed as recommended by your doctor or according to product specifications. Typically, for adults and children over 12 years of age, one spray in each nostril 2-3 times a day, but not more than 7 consecutive days, is recommended.

The Otrivin range, while generally safe, may have some contraindications:

• Hypersensitivity to any of the active ingredients or excipients
• Children under 2 years - Otrivin Breathe Clean is recommended for children over 2 years of age and other products in the range may have different age limits
• Pregnant and breastfeeding women - Caution and medical advice is advised before using xylometazoline products.

For Otrivin products with vasoconstrictor decongestants (xylometazoline), people with high blood pressure or heart disease should consult a doctor before use.

To use isotonic saline sprays, blow your nose, insert the nozzle into the hose, tilt it at an angle and spray briefly. Do the same for the other nostril. 

Blow your nose and wash the nozzle with warm water after use. Do not share the box, it is intended for use by one person.

Side effects are rare with proper use of Otrivin products, but may include:

• Nasal irritation or dryness - Especially with prolonged use of decongestants
• Burning or tingling sensation in the nasal cavity
• Persistent congestion after application

If such symptoms occur, it is recommended to stop using the product and consult a doctor.

Otrivin products, especially those containing vasoconstrictive decongestants, may interact with:

• Tricyclic antidepressants or monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs): may increase risk of hypertension
• Other nasal preparations with sympathomimetics

The risk of overdose is minimal for isotonic nasal washes, but higher for decongestant products such as xylometazoline. Overdose may cause symptoms such as: increased blood pressure, nausea, vomiting, fever, convulsions or drowsiness.

If an overdose is suspected, contact a doctor immediately.

Otrivin should be stored in a dry place, at a temperature below 25°C and away from sources of direct light and moisture. The product should be kept out of reach of children.
