Parakill

Parakill Romvac is available as a topical antiparasitic solution, packaged in dropper bottles, which allows for precise dosing according to the animal’s body weight. Each millilitre of solution contains 200 mg of fipronil.

The product is available in two main variants:

• Parakill 5 ml, equivalent to approximately 100 drops;
• Parakill 10 ml, equivalent to approximately 200 drops.

Romvac Parakill is indicated for the prevention and control of ectoparasite infestations in dogs and cats. 

In the case of ticks, Parakill is effective against species such as Ixodes ricinus, Rhipicephalus bursa, Dermacentor marginatus, Dermacentor reticulatus and Haemophysalis punctata. 

With regard to fleas, the product is active against Ctenocephalides canis, Ctenocephalides felis and Pulex irritans, species frequently implicated in flea allergy dermatitis and the transmission of certain intestinal parasites.

Parakill also combats infestations with lice, such as Trichodectes canis and Felicola subrostrata, which can cause intense itching, skin irritation and damage to the coat.

Parakill is administered topically, by direct application to the animal’s skin in the nape of the neck. This area is chosen because the animal cannot reach it with its tongue to lick off the applied substance.

The recommended dose is 1 drop per kilogram of body weight. The solution is applied directly to the skin, parting the fur to facilitate contact with the skin.

After application, the substance gradually spreads into the lipid layer of the skin, providing antiparasitic protection for approximately four weeks.

The use of Parakill for dogs and cats is contraindicated in certain specific situations. It is not recommended for use on animals younger than 6 weeks.

Furthermore, the product must not be applied to debilitated, very old, or hypersensitive animals, or to those hypersensitive to fipronil or the excipients in the formulation. 

To ensure the effectiveness of Parakill, the product must be applied directly to the skin, not just to the fur. Before use, the bottle must be shaken to homogenise the solution.

After application, animals must be protected from rain or immediate washing, as moisture may reduce the product’s effectiveness.

Parakill for cats and dogs is generally well tolerated. However, in some cases, mild and transient adverse reactions may occur.

The most common is excessive salivation, which resolves spontaneously within a short time. In rare cases, local skin reactions may occur at the application site, such as erythema, pruritus, skin discolouration or localised alopecia. Occasionally, generalised pruritus or hair loss may occur.

In general, Parakill can be used concurrently with most standard veterinary treatments. As it is administered topically and acts locally, the risk of systemic interactions is low.

However, caution is advised when used simultaneously with other topical antiparasitic products to avoid overlap of active substances. Before combining with other treatments, it is recommended to consult your vet.

Overdose may occur if a larger quantity of the product is administered than that recommended based on the animal’s weight.

Symptoms may include excessive salivation, skin irritation or temporary agitation. In such cases, it is recommended to wash the application site and monitor the animal; if symptoms persist, a veterinary surgeon should be consulted.

Parakill should be stored in its original, tightly sealed packaging at moderate temperatures and away from direct sunlight.

It is important that the product is stored out of the reach of children and animals to prevent accidental ingestion.
