It is a non-hormonal copper intrauterine contraceptive device (IUD) that works by causing local inflammation of the endometrium and prevents implantation of the fertilized oocyte in the uterus. This activity is auxiliary reinforced by the presence of copper. Copper has a cytotoxic effect on the gametes causing the alteration of the sperm, thus leading to the inhibition of fertilization. It is effective from the day of insertion.
Short form: for uterus < 7 cm.
The duration of implantation is 5 years.
