Exoderil cutaneous solution, 20 ml, Sandoz

Exoderil is an antifungal agent intended for external application.

It is indicated in:

• Fungal infections of the skin or skin folds (Tinea corporis, Tinea inguinalis); interdigital mycoses (Tinea manum, Tinea pedum)
• Fungal nail infections
• Candida skin infections; pityriasis versicolor
• Inflammatory dermatomycoses (with or without pruritus).

The active substance of the product is naftifine:

• Naftifine is active against dermatophytes, e.g. Trichophyton, Microsporum and Epidermophyton species), yeasts (Candida species, Pityriasis versicolor), molds (Aspergillus species) and other fungi (e.g. Sporothrix schenkii). For dermatophytes and Aspergillus species, naftifine is fungicidal in vitro. For yeasts, naftifine is either fungicidal or fungistatic depending on the type of strain involved.
• In addition to its antifungal action, naftifine also has antibacterial activity acting on a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms that frequently occur in association with fungal disease.
• Clinically, naftifine has also been shown to have intrinsic anti-inflammatory action, leading to a rapid reduction in inflammatory symptoms, especially pruritus.

Because it penetrates the skin quickly and is present in persistent antifungal concentrations in the different layers of the skin, Exoderil can be administered once a day in local applications.

Composition:

• 1 g of cream contains: naftifine hydrochloride 10 mg and benzyl alcohol as preservative 10 mg
• 1 ml of solution contains: naftifine hydrochloride 10 mg and propylene glycol 50 mg.

Method of administration:

• To be administered in local applications only to the skin or nails.
• Dosage: Exoderil is applied locally once a day to the affected area and surrounding areas after they have been cleaned and dried.
• To prevent recurrences, it is recommended to administer Exoderil for at least another 2 weeks after clinical healing.

Contraindications:

• Hypersensitivity to naftifine or benzyl alcohol (preservative)
• Pregnancy and lactation: There is no known effect of Exoderil on the fetus or child if this product is used appropriately. Teratogenicity studies have not revealed any embryotoxic effect of naftifine.

Precautions:

Exoderil contains ethanol and therefore should not come into contact with the eyes or be applied to areas of skin with lesions.

Pregnancy, lactation and fertility:

• If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
• If used properly, the medicine has no effect on the fetus or newborn.

Driving and using machines:

• They are not relevant.
